Our Wedding Day

1 Corinthians 13: 1-13

We were married on 4th August 1993.

The bride wore an ivory silk gown trimmed with Nottingham lace and seed pearls, complete with full-length train and veil.  The bridesmaids wore shot-silk taffetta gowns in Blackwatch Tartan.  The bridal bouquet comprised white roses, lilies, freesia and varigated ivy.

The wedding reception took place at the beautiful Belfast Castle, (where Ann's parents had also held their wedding reception in 1951).

A Hymn from our Marriage Ceremony

The grace of life is theirs who on this wedding day
Delight to make their vows, and for each other pray.
May they, O Lord, together prove
The lasting joy of Christian love.

Where love is God abides; And God shall surely bless
A home where trust and care give birth to happiness.
May they, O Lord, together prove
The lasting joy of such a love.

How slow to take offense love is. How quick to heal.
How ready in distress to know how others feel.
May they, O Lord, together prove
The lasting joy of such a love.

And when time lays its hand on all we hold most dear,
And life, by life consumed, fulfils its purpose here.
May we, O Lord, together prove
The lasting joy of Christian love.

[This hymn is entitled "Joint Heirs of the Grace of Life" written by F Pratt Green
and is sung to the tune "Love Unknown" by John Ireland.]

This poem was given to Ann by her mother, Rebecca Mercer.
(Author unknown).

I give you to the man you love upon your wedding day.
No tear of mine can mar your joy;  I send you on your way.
Grateful for the golden years when you belonged to me,
Treasuring within my heart each precious memory.
I'm losing you, my dear, but I am more than glad to know
That you have found your love,  as I found mine long, long ago.
So goodbye my little girl; God keep you and God bless,
Granting you life's sweetest blessings: health and happiness.
